Marilyn Bettes selected as GCRW Tribute to Women Honoree.

Every two years , the Texas Federation of Republican Women host Tribute to Women to honor the women of TFRW who are selected by their home clubs as the women who exemplify the best qualities of TFRW, leadership and community dedication. Tribute to Women gives each club an opportunity to honor one or more members of their club; women who give to their club and the Republican Party. GCRW has selected Marilyn Bettes to represent Grimes County Republican Women. Marilyn is always willing to help when needed and is a true gem. Read below to learn more about Marilyn.

At 21, I began voting in local and national Republican elections; however, my active role in

political issues began when we moved to Grimes County in 2003. Many people we met and

became friends with were Republicans.

We attended Grimes County Republican Party (GCRP) meetings and functions. In 2005, we

attended the “first” Reagan Dinner; I have never missed one since!

In 2007, I became a member of the GCRP Reagan Dinner Planning Committee; I continue to be an active member. The 22nd Reagan Dinner will be in 2027.

Sometime in 2009, one of our members was invited to a meeting of the Montgomery County

Republican Women. She, in turn, invited several of the active GCRP women to attend with her.

We soon made it our mission to form our own Republican Women’s Group. With TFRW

credentials approved, the Grimes County Republican Women (GCRW) was formed in 2011. I

served in various GCRW positions, including the Executive Committee. I have attended both

RPT and TFRW Conventions on a regular basis.

In our first year, we initiated the Constitution Week project, which continues today, to distribute Pocket Constitutions, including a short program about their value, to all fifth graders in our county schools. I volunteered to chair the undertaking with the valuable assistance of the first GCRW President and other volunteers; I continue to serve.

I currently serve on 10 other community organizations.

I am one of the twelve founding members of GCRW.
