About Dr Rina Quijada

Dr Quijada brings over 40 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, with a career that began in Venezuela and extended internationally. She started at PDVSA’s petrochemical subsidiary, Pequiven, in 1983. In 1987, she moved to Houston, Texas, working for CMAI until 2000. That year, she founded IntelliChem, Inc., a company providing market intelligence on Latin American petrochemical markets. IntelliChem was acquired by IHS in 2013, which later merged with S&P Global in 2021. Dr Quijada served as a leading executive until her retirement in December 2023.

Her expertise covers the entire petrochemical value chain, from feedstock to end-use products. She has also dedicated much of her career to educating others through workshops explaining the workings of the petrochemical industry, especially in Latin America.

Dr Quijada holds a PhD in economics (1992), a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird School of Global Management, attended the Oxford Graduate Program in 1981, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry in 1980.

What to Expect at the Meeting

The February meeting will begin at 5:30 pm at New Hope Church, 7908 N Hwy 6 Loop, Navasota, with dinner starting at 6:00 pm. Before Dr Quijada’s presentation, some candidates involved in the current Primary season will speak briefly, offering attendees a chance to hear from local political hopefuls.

Dr Quijada’s talk will provide a firsthand account of how recent political and economic changes in Venezuela affect everyday life. She will explore:

  • The challenges Venezuelan families face amid economic instability

  • The impact of government policies on personal freedoms

  • How daily routines and access to basic goods have changed

  • The role of the petrochemical industry in Venezuela’s economy and its global connections

This meeting offers a rare opportunity to learn about Venezuela from an expert who has lived and worked there and understands the broader economic and social context.

Why This Topic Matters

Venezuela’s situation has global implications, especially for those interested in international affairs, energy markets, and human rights. Understanding the realities on the ground helps inform discussions about immigration, foreign policy, and economic strategies.

For members of GCRW and the wider community, this talk will deepen awareness of how political decisions affect families and freedoms. It also highlights the importance of advocating for principles that support liberty and economic opportunity.
